The Moon Set by MegamiJadeheart The Moon Set by MegamiJadeheart
This is the only photograph I actually got of this costume set.

The moon set was originally intended to be a test of some 1500s Italian patterns. I made them with halloween in mind, out of on-sale halloween fabric.

Once Cat saw them, she insisted that we enter them in the masquerade at Balticon, and we worked on the painted moons around the hems. We won best in show. I still have a hard time believing it ^^,

Cat is wearing the gown, the skirt of which is hand pleated quite carefully, and really impressed on of the judges. I am wearing the Cioppa, which is pretty much a circle with slight fit for shoulders and huge half-circular sleeves. The cioppa completely hides all but the sleeves of the doublet, and I'm wearing a corset (which I made) under it all to hide my chest. Cat had fun playing with makeup to make my face more masculine.

These costumes are actually currently getting re-worked, but more pictures will be had once they are done.

I'm glad to help, though while the design and patterns of the outfits are as close to historical as I could manage at the time, the fabrics definitely are not ^^

I looked at a lot of painting and artist sketches from the time period to decide on such things as the hight of the waistline and the angle of the shoulders on the gown, and the ones I chose were from a very specific sketch done around 1490. The waist is much higher than the previously typical Florentine waistline, which hit about the bottom of the rib-cage rather that directly under the bosom, and was apparently only in style for 10 years, or less, in Italy at the time. I wish I still had my sources on hand so I could link you. . .

It must be fun actually taking classes on these things ^^, I just do research in my spare time on the internet. . . I would love to have teachers to talk to about these things.

Sweet! This has been sitting in my DAwatch box for how long now, and I'm just getting to comment on it! ^_^
I can't wait to see more pics, especially of the painted moons!
Any my goodness, you are the tall one, aren't you! Well, that's what it looks like, anyway. If so, it must help with crossplaying... Something I haven't been able to do convincingly myself. But sis, she can... In fact, I routinely have to break a fan girls heart by telling them that the Jack Sparrow in my gallery is *not* my brother. ;)

I'm so bad about commenting ^^, It seems like life is taking more and more of my time away from the computer.

I hope to get the re-vamp finished up for this halloween. It's going to be a busy summer, so I don't think I'll be able to make anything wholly new, and it will give me some incentive ^_^

Yep, I'm tall ~grin~ nearly 6 foot. But I've got a really girly shape (very big hips and butt) that is hard to disguise in anything other than period garb. I think being more fair, and having a more feminine face might keep you from looking boyish. I have to agree that Inki makes one hot dude ^_~ (You're both very pretty, actually, and lucky that you complement each other. I'm quite envious sometimes.)

Poor fangirls ~chuckle~ so easily given hope, so easily shattered ^^, I bet the first question is "is that your brother? (not your BF)" and second "(if he is your brother) is he taken?" ~laugh~

Same here. :_:
I'm hopeing to do a Harlequin for this Halloween, but I'm stuck on what type of Harlequin I'm going to do. Here's my LJ journal entry I typed out on my dilemma, since I really don't feel like typing all that at again. ;) [link]

Oiy! I'm average, 5 foot 4 something I think, but I have the same shape as you. ^_^ And yeah, I don't do guys well at all..... ^_~
She dose, doesn't she? Some one over on the Yahoo fantasy sewing groups we're both on miss took her for a guy again, and commented that she should do a young Anakin Skywalker before she "grew out of his boyish good looks!"
Thanks! It's nice haveing some one who will play a male pair, especially since my bro won't!
Yep! *giggle*

Hmm, that is a dilemma. I like the coat and corset look, but I just love the ruffy bustle. I suppose it might look odd to add a bit of ruffle to the dark queen look . . .

Yeah, I look like I was just scaled up from a normal sized person ~laugh~ No-one can tell how tall I am from a distance or when I'm sitting.

She would make a cute Ani, but only if she wants to ^_~ It will be a long time before I try to tackle and of Amadala's gowns ^^,

She would, and I think she really want's to do it too. She wants me to be a Jedi though. *giggle* That could be fun. Me to, though some of them are very pretty... But so complex!

Now that looks neat! ^_^ Just the right amount of both ruffle and diamond-check, and still so elegant  I can't wait to see it made.

I've been asked to make a young Obi-wan costume, we could do the whole new trilogy in reverse gender ^_~

Isn't it? I'm huting up patterns at this minute, since my self drafting isn't good enough yet. (i'll get there, just one thing at a time. ^_^ ) I should try and document the makeing of this a little better then I have my past coustme.

Oh, now tha would be fun! ^_^ Hmm, I wounder which one I could do in reverse gender ?

Self-drafting is a tough thing to learn ^^, When making something for myself, I usually just look to my current stock of patterns (that I've already forced to fit my body) for something similar and alter it ^^, When I was starting out, I bought a lot of patterns and hacked them together.

What is this documentation of which you speak? ^_~

It would be fun ^^, Though something horrible just occurred to me. You and your sister would look awesome as Luke and Han . . .

Wow! I can understand why you won best in show! That's incredible xD! I'm surprised you didn't go into costume design as a career! You would have kicked ass at it! Heck I would have worn that outfit [The one you're in] xD It actually looks comfy. And I'm totally NOT a dress up person XD!

Thank you! I really liked this set.

Costume design was always an option ^^ Sewing and drawing are the two things I can't seem to stop myself from doing. The way I see it is, I can always do that when I'm tired of being an animator ~giggle~

I love Italian men's clothing so much ^^ That's why a lot of Niran outfits from my story look sort of Italian. I plan on making another Cioppa (the big pleated coat like I'm wearing here) in dark red velvet with a black fur trim. It will be so sexy, soft and pettable ~drools at the mental image~

Doesn't the corset make you hard to breathe? You know... if you didn't say you're the one on the right I really thought you're on the left.

I think I'm begining to imagine how tall you'd be...

I'd be angry if these customes didn't won anything. They look beautiful, even though I have zero knowledge on fashion.... or costumes.

Corsets are actually really comfortable. You can breath just fine, because there is slack in the laces in back, and you still have up and down freedom.

A lot of people who weren't there assume I'm the one in the dress ~giggle~ I spent the entire night being addressed as "sir." It even took my mother a while to recognize me (granted when I had the mask on)

Yep. 5'11" I'm pretty tall. Cat gets miffed because I always get to play the man when we perform ~giggle~ She's the more assertive of the two of us, but I've got the height people look at as masculine.

They are really good costumes ^_^ I don't know if I've actually made anything better yet. The re-working I'm doing on them is just to make the dress two separate gowns, and to fix the painted moons and attach them more permanently. I'm really glad you like them. Thank you ^_^
